Pearson Adult Learning Centre: Weekly Feature

Spring is here and with it comes Easter. What is Easter? It is celebrated with bunnies, chicks, eggs and chocolate.
Easter
is very important for Christians. Easter is a time to celebrate the
rebirth of Jesus Christ. Much like Christmas, Easter has changed so
that everyone can participate. Because Easter occurs in Spring, Easter
is a time of rebirth in nature. It is a time when babies are born, and
flowers begin to bloom.
Easter is celebrated with rabbits
because they are known for their ability to make a lot of babies. The
same reason is true for eggs. Eggs are a symbol of babies too.
The
giving of eggs at Springtime comes from a lot of different countries.
The decorating of eggs at Easter time comes from many different places.
In ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and Persia eggs were dyed for spring
festivals. In medieval Europe, beautifully decorated eggs were given as
gifts. Famous decorated eggs include Faberge eggs from Russia and
Ukrainian eggs (Pysanky).
Egg decorating can be a fun and
affordable family activity. Here are some links to sites that tell you
what you will need and how you can decorate the eggs:

No matter how you decide to celebrate Easter, it is important to take the time to enjoy the Spring season.
