There is
still a week of holidays to enjoy before school and work begins.
The New Year is going to bring busy times into our lives. If you
can, try to make time to enjoy some of the activities the lower
mainland has to offer. There is something for everyone. After
being away, I am truly amazed at what opportunities we have around
us.

Public
Observation Area at YVR – Take a Canada
Line train in and explore the remodeled domestic terminal. Grab a
bite to eat and sit in the public observation area where you’ll
have a fantastic view of planes landing. Kids can explore and
watch multiple videos at the kiosks, learn about local history,
and peep through binoculars to get an up-close look at aircraft on
the tarmac.

Bright
Nights in Stanley Park will run until
January 2, 2010.
BC Sports
Hall of Fame – Starting January 8th they
will have a new “Go Canucks Go” exhibit featuring highlights,
photos, Captain’s Corner, and 40 Canuck moments to celebrate the
team’s 40th anniversary with the NHL.
Surrey’s
Winter Ice Palace – Running until
January 3rd at the Cloverdale Arena, the Winter Ice Palace is ice
skating with an old fashioned twist.

Village Museum – Presenting Christmas

Canada Place – Bundle up, grab some hot
chocolate, and watch the sails lightshow.

Skating – Skating at Robson Square is
open from 12:00pm – 9:00pm daily. During the holidays, they’ll be
open Christmas Day (12:00pm – 5:00 pm), Boxing Day (9:00am –

Festival of Lights is back bigger & better than ever for December
2009. Open daily, lights come
on at 4:30 pm.
December 11 to 31, 2009
VanDusen Botanical Garden presents The Festival of Lights.
VanDusen Botanical Garden’s Festival of Lights is the best therapy
we can think of to combat the winter blahs. It has proven
effective in upping the fun quotient for extended families with
multiple generations, dating couples as well as friends looking
for something to do together. Running December 11th through
January 3rd from 4:30 to 9 pm every night (except December 25th
when the Garden is closed), Festival of Lights presents a dazzling
wonderland illuminated by more than 1.4 million lights displayed
over 10 acres of the Garden.
December 19 - 31, 2009
Twelve Days of Christmas. During Twelve Days of Christmas, the
Museum features a break from the busy holidays with self-guided
crafts for kids and festive decorations. Celebrate the season with
learning and sharing at the Vancouver Maritime Museum and help
provide safe harbour for those in need. With a non-perishable food
bank donation, children under ten receive free admission (maximum
of two free children when accompanied by a paid adult). From
Saturday, December 19 to Sunday, January 3, the Maritime Museum
will be open every day from 10 am to 5pm. Exceptions are Sundays,
open from noon to 5pm.

Public Ice Skating at Robson Square. Located in the heart of
downtown Vancouver, Robson Square is British Columbia’s home for
the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Starting Tuesday,
November 24, GE Plaza will be open for free public skating from
Noon to 9PM every day. Rentals are $3 and include helmets for
those 12 and under.

Museum of Vancouver presents Ravishing Beasts. Displaying the
Museum’s extensive collection of taxidermy for the first time in
decades, Ravishing Beasts investigates this provocative and
strangely alluring practice. Whether a hoarding of exotic
curiosities, a scientific archive, a hunting trophy, or a stuffed
pet, taxidermy always exposes longings to capture animals and tell
stories about their significance within human lives.
