Looking for a Word in Word? Hit Shift + F7!
Have you ever been working in
Microsoft Word and gotten stuck for a synonym for an overused
vocabulary word? Yes, so have I!
What to do? First, highlight the
word with your mouse. Then, hold down the "Shift" key (located on
both the right and left of your keyboard) and then hit the key
"F7" in the upper row. When you do the key combination correctly,
you will get a popup box with various suggestions, including
antonyms.
In the most recent versions of
Word, you will get a whole sidebar of information under the
heading "Research," including the ability to search online and in
various reference sources on the Internet for just the right word
to use.
Be cautious, however, to make sure
the new word will fit in your existing sentence! Note the word
forms (noun, verb, adjective etc.) and, to be extra sure, try a
Google search for the new word and find a sentence or two to check
how it is used.
