Reading
Leads to Better Writing
Like last week, let's start with Mark Twain:
"The man who doesn't read good books has no advantage over the man
who can't read them."
Susan Sontag: "Reading usually precedes writing
and the impulse to write is almost always fired by reading.
Reading, the love of reading, is what makes you dream of becoming
a writer."
Stephen King:
"If you
don't have the time to read, you don't have the time or the tools
to write."
The holidays are coming, an excellent chance for
all of us to take some time out, to read, to open up a book or,
better yet, to give someone else a book. Remember that used book
sellers are a great source of books for reading (besides the
library, of course). Just yesterday, I purchased four books with
combined cover prices over 200 dollars, but paid only 40 dollars
for all of them!
